At Woodkirk Accademy, Leeds, today upgrading the existing access control system to sit on the IT network.
We were contacted to have a look at an existing Progeny P3 system, covering access control in the main school building. The original configuration was controllers networked together via RS485 and direct connected into the reception PC through a RS485 to USB converter. The client realised that they would achieve better flexibility and system administration by moving the Doors Enterprise software onto a'real' server machine and connecting out to the controllers via an Ethernet connection.
It was a straight forward job, installing the server software on a virtual machine, swapping one of the P3 controllers for a Crystal.net, reconfiguring the connection and reloading the new controller. A pleasure to help out a new customer and leave with an improved system.
